The fracture can be seen extending down most of the root.

This young dog presented for endodontic treatment of its fractured left maxillary canine tooth. The tooth was recently fractured and the pulp was exposed. Teeth with pulp exposure require endodontic treatment or extraction. Upon closer examination of the tooth, a vertical fracture was found extending below the gum line. The intraoral radiograph showed the fracture extending at least half the length of the tooth. A decision was made to extract the tooth based on the poor prognosis for endodontic treatment. Examination of the tooth after extraction showed the extent of the fracture.
